The “Kyoto Sagano Club,” located in Saga-Arashiyama, preserves a collection of data and samples of works accumulated through the rich history of craftsmen and workshops associated with Kyo-Yuzen dyeing and Nishijin weaving. Recently, under the supervision of Yoshihiro Iwata, a traditional artisan from the long-established Kyo-Yuzen studio “Kanei Textile and Dyeing Co., Ltd.,” a new project has been launched. Named the “Kyo-Yuzen Warehouse Art” project, its aim is to bring the time-honored techniques that have adorned fabrics like kimonos and obis closer to modern lifestyles. By combining traditional craftsmanship with digital techniques and dyeing, this initiative seeks to breathe new life into these age-old methods, showcasing innovation born from tradition, and enriching Japan’s manufacturing industry.
